Walked It
A walking diary for New Zealand tracks.
Pick a walk, put your phone in your pocket, and go. Walked It keeps track of which parts of the route you have covered while you walk, and when the whole line fills in you get the moment the app is named after: Walked It! It is a diary, not a fitness app. There are no streaks to keep and no pace to beat, just a record of the tracks you have walked and the days you walked them.
How it works
- Choose a trail from the catalogue. Each one comes with a map, its length, where to park, and the huts, lookouts and other points along the way.
- Start a live walk and the app colours in the route as you cover it. Tracking keeps working with the screen off and with no mobile signal at all.
- Maps are downloadable offline packs with shaded relief and contour lines, so a day on the Kaituna Valley track to Packhorse Hut works the same as a walk through Hagley Park.
- Afterwards, add notes and photos, and rate the walk if you feel like it. The diary keeps the lot.
Your data stays yours
Walked It works with no account at all. Your walk logs, GPS tracks, notes and photos live on your phone and nowhere else. If you sign in, and you never have to, the app backs up your diary to our server so a new phone can pick up where the old one left off. Photos never leave your phone unless you choose to share one. There are no ads, no analytics and no trackers. The app is free, with nothing to buy.
The privacy policy says all of this in full, in plain English.
Where you can walk
The catalogue covers Canterbury today: more than 160 walks across the Port Hills, Banks Peninsula, Ōtautahi Christchurch and the State Highway 73 corridor to Arthur's Pass. The rest of the South Island is being added region by region.
